BUNNY IS A RIDER - Andrea Frosolini

BUNNY IS A RIDER

BUNNY IS A RIDER // 2021 // performance // biker suits, helmets, abs bench, pvc backdrop, dog bowls, fresh beer // IPERSITU – curated by Daniela Cotimbo // Spazio In Situ – Roma _ photos by Luca Bonaventura

Bunny is a Raider presents a fictional narrative of a blind date within the world of the “rider” subculture—a branch of the leather/BDSM scene comprised of men with a strong fetish for technical motorcycle gear. This fetish extends to leather, full suits, helmets, boots,
gloves, and more. Throughout the encounter, the subject’s identity remains hidden; their face is never revealed, and practices like petting, which emphasize tactile sensations through the friction of leather surfaces that separate bodies, are preferred. The absence of identity enhances the unpredictability of the meeting, creating an idealized scenario where the rider becomes a blank canvas upon which one’s ideal self-image can be projected. This mask, paradoxically, describes the self more accurately than one’s
true identity, embodying a nearly perfect avatar of one’s projected self. The performance will feature two riders, complete strangers in real life, meeting within the artist’s atelier—a space meticulously designed as a result of the artist’s private conversations with each
performer. The setting is Berlin. Agreed-upon accessories include a leather abdominal bench, a urinal, and a dog bowl, carefully chosen by both participants. The staged set heightens the presence of the observing public, stripping the scene of its natural flow. Here, the
voyeur is unveiled, while the subject remains hidden beneath a full-face helmet. Leather acts as a barrier and a magnet for the observer, creating an ambiguous attraction to an image they are compelled to spy upon. The image replaces content, triggering a fusion with the surface, which unfolds as a voyeuristic stage set for reality itself.
